Fuel oil (also known as heavy oil, marine fuel or furnace oil) is a fraction obtained from petroleum distillation, either as a distillate or a residue. In general terms, fuel oil is any liquid fuel that is burned in a furnace or boiler for the generation of heat or used in an engine for the generation of power, except oils having a flash point of approximately 42 °C (108 °F) and oils burned
Whatever type of system you have, don't wait until it breaks down to do DIY furnace maintenance. A clean, well-adjusted heating system will save you money on fuel and prolong furnace life. Annual servicing is cheap—typically less than $100—especially when compared with the price of a new furnace.
The maintenance for boilers is entirely different. High efficiency boilers and oil boilers (like a warm air furnace) usually require annual service, but a cast iron gas boiler can run for years with minimal maintenance. When it comes to boiler vs. furnace, which one makes more sense for you depends on your needs and your budget.
“Furnace, boiler, it’s all the same thing.” People think it is just semantics, but it’s not. Sure, we get the idea, and we understand that you are talking about your heating system. But they are not the same thing. A boiler uses hot water to heat your living space, while a furnace uses warm air.

If you rent or own a small apartment, chances are, you’re working with a combi boiler.
Especially in oil-fired appliances, the proper design of a condensing-type furnace or boiler requires much more than proper sizing of a secondary heat exchanger. A number of problems exist peculiar to the oil combustion process in contrast to the gas combustion process, which makes condensing oil furnace design extremely difficult.
By contrast, wires for low-voltage thermostats are very thin, similar to wiring for doorbells or telephone jacks. You can also check for a voltage listing inside the cover of the thermostat, or on the heat pump, furnace (inside the access door), boiler, or the electrical baseboard unit itself. Characteristics. Number of thermostat wires: two to
