6year old vaillant combi boiler needs topping up at least daily to keep hot water supply. Pressure is maintained when central heating on but if pressure not maintained then boiler does not fire for hot water and sounds noisy. This all disappears as soon as water put in. Radiators all bled and no sign of any leaks.

It is recently losing pressure on a daily basis: I top up with water up to 1 bar, the boiler heats the house; after the boiler has cooled, pressure has fallen almost to where the gauge shows red. I understand from reading Devil Advocate's advice to others, that this is likely to do with the EV either losing air or having water in it.

Hes put a gauge on the expansion vessel up to about 14.5 psi, topped the pressure up on the boiler gauge to around 1 mbar (10 oclock on a clock dial on a Vaillant dial) and put the heating on. Then got vaillant out, they fitted the legendary conversion kit, but was still losing pressure, so I got them out again & the replaced the heat exchanger which had a crack in it allowing water to escape causing the pressure to drop, since this has been replaced the boiler has worked like new, mind you it is only 6 years old!

If you have no signs of a leak and youre losing pressure, youre pressure relief valve is probaly letting by, this is a safety valve which allows water to escape outside safely if the central heating pressure becomes to high, it will normally be a 15mm copper pipe going through the wall outside it will just be kicked back on itself. if you know where this is or can trace the pipe to outside, if the wall is wet or has an orange like stain or you can see it dripping that is most probaly youre

Water coming out of the overflow outside (did the bag on pipe test) so i believe it to be the expansion vessel. I turned off the boiler, emptied the water down to 0 bar and depressed the schrader valve - no water just air.
